Don't look now, but the Edmonton Oilers might finally be putting things together this season. The Oil is 3-1-1 in its last five games, but after starting the season off on the wrong foot the team is still sitting in fourth place in the weak Pacific Division with an 8-13-6 record. But looking at the positives, the team's recent record could be a sign of good things to come. The Oilers scored six goals in the win against San Jose. Edmonton scored just seven goals combined in the previous four games. And it's not just how many goals were scored, but who scored them, as well. Andrei Kovalenko and Jason Arnott broke out of their respective slumps. While it's hard to believe, Kovalenko hadn't scored a goal yet this season entering the Sharks' game. But the "Little Tank" finally came through with a goal. Dougie Weight added four assists in the game, which pushes him even closer to a point- per-game average. He has 26 points in 27 games. Safety Tip Don't dump hot grease down the drain of your kitchen sink... Olympic Update Once again, our usual Edmonton Oiler correspondent, Simon D. Lewis, was overlooked for the Canadian Olympic team. He was eating his Canadian Wheaties and doing everything he could in order to make the team. But alas, like Mark Messier, it was not meant to be. But fear not, Edmontonians, you'll still have someone to root for when Team Canada takes the ice. Curtis Joseph was named to the team. Although he'll probably serve as the team's third goalie behind Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur, at least he'll have a chance to take home one of those shiny round things. By The Way... Let's not get too hyped up about the Oilers' recent winning ways. The next two games on the schedule are against the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars. Perhaps we should enjoy the team's success while it lasts...
