team news:

by Jim "Puffy" Iovino, Toronto Correspondent

With the absence of Jonah Sigel, our regular Maple Leaf correspondent, I'm afraid this edition of the Leafs team report will be rather brief.

You see, something always happens to Leafs correpondents. It's like they get sucked into another dimension or something and are never heard from again. Brad Ross, a dedicated LCS correspondent for years, just vanished off of the face of the earth one day. Hopefully the same hasn't happened to Jonah. Let's all hope and pray for a quick return to the Maple Leaf beat.

As for the Leafs, well, they still aren't very good. Alright, they suck. If you take a look at the latest games in the Game Results section above, you'll see that they lost to good teams and tied a mediocre team. But they beat Calgary, which means jack squat this season.

Late word in to the offices has Glenn Healy sidelined indefinitely due to Broadway Bernie Nicholls slicing his hand open with his skate blade. This means Felix Potvin will have to hold the fort practically every night now unless Marcel Cousineau proves to be a capable backup. The Leafs are high on Cousineau, though, so keep an eye on him the next couple times he hits the ice. If he plays outstanding hockey, it could make the Leafs more comfortable trading Potvin, if they are inclined to do so.

Speaking of Potvin, my girlfriend, who is a die-hard Maple Leaf fan and a big Potvin supporter, sent him an encouraging letter a few weeks ago. Two days ago she received a form letter back saying thanks and a swell autographed picture of him in goal. So to all of you Potvin fans out there, if ya want an autographed picture of The Cat, crank out some of that fan mail. But don't send cards for him to sign, because he doesn't do it for some reason.
