LCS: Beer of the Week #1
By Matthew Secosky, Chimp B
Winner: Red Ass Buckin' A Pale Ale, Red Ass Brewing Co.With the NHL playoff race heating up, it is safe to assume that fans across the world increase their consumption of alcoholically-enhanced beverages to lessen the pain of defeat or heighten the thrill of victory. Then again maybe they just like getting drunk.
But no matter what your reason, we at LCS know that you, our valued readers above and beyond the legal drinking age, and also you, our valued readers with really good fake ID's, would like to know what type of mad hops to purchase at the local watering hole. We therefore bring to you, our valued readers, a column we at LCS simply refer to as LCS: Beer of the Week.
While it has been a few minutes since I enjoyed this beverage, I remember the moment well. It was a balmy summer's night in Delaware and I had just finished watching Punky Brewster. The urge to drink was great. So off I went to the fridge, church key in hand, and popped the cap. The aroma drifted to my nose like so many condors descending on their prey. Slow and Gawky like. But most of all, it smelled JUST LIKE BEER! Without further delay, I put my lips to the bottle's opening with reckless abandon and took a sip. Oddly enough, it tasted JUST LIKE BEER!
"Wow" I thought. Before I knew it I had downed a case and a half. I then spent the rest of the night in a daze, running naked thru the streets of a small town in Delaware, declaring I was the new Blue Power Ranger. "Yeehaw, I'm a Power Ranger!" I'd say, "Yeeeehaawww! Wanna see my MegaZord! Yeehaaaww!" Of course that only lasted till I passed out face first in a drainage ditch behind the A&P.
But seriously, here's the low down from the fine brewery folk themselves.
"Red Ass Buckin' A Pale Ale - Modeled after American Classic Pale Ales, Buckin' A is a lightly colored but robust and hoppy ale. It is brewed to a fairly high original gravity (1.059 degrees S.G.) giving it an impressive body and strength (6% A/V). It is bittered with American Cluster Hops, and generously dry - hopped with American Cascade hops, giving it an intensely fragrant floral nose."
Not much to say after that bit of self-promotion, but I'll give it a try. Actually, I have no clue what they were talking about. I ain't no brewmeister, I just drink the stuff. All I know is this beer got mad hops. Also, it is marketed by some people from Colorado, home of the Stanley Cup Champion Avalanche. So it gots to be good. Besides they have a mascot named "Bucky". Can't beat a beer with a mascot.
Bottom Line: Red Ass Ale goes down smooth, but it has an after taste that hurts. Kinda like Bucky the Little Red Donkey kicked you in the head personally. But all in all, a good beer to give a try.
