I Won A Bet
by Michael Menser Dell, Editor-in-Chief
Loyal listeners of the LCS Hockey Radio Show will recall I made a bet with Matt Diggs about the Stanley Cup Finals. Diggs, a delusional Detroit fan, got the better of me last year, and I had to run LCS logos featuring those filthy Red Wings all summer. The horror. The horror.
Well, this year we upped the stakes. The loser had to proudly display the winner’s colors in the front window of their home until next season. And, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the Pittsburgh Penguins beat those filthy, filthy Red Wings, and it was glorious.
I sent Diggs a beautiful 4X5 banner with “Pittsburgh 87” emblazoned in championship black and gold. Such a spectacular tribute to Kid Crosby and the champs would no doubt inspire vandalism and untold misery for Diggs throughout the summer months. I couldn’t have been happier.
But no! Diggs turned yella. He couldn’t bring himself to honor Kid Crosby, which is ironic since he railed against Sid for the non-existent handshake snub. Be the change you want to see in the world, Diggs. Be the change.
Anyway, he was kind enough to return the banner, even covering the cost of the original postage, and opted instead for an Evgeni Malkin poster he purchased with his own coin. So now Geno the Scoring Machine-o will be gracing his front window until teams report for training camp. I’m thinking of organizing tours.
Diggs snapped a photo to prove it. Notice, he’s even sporting a tin foil hat worthy of his misguided conspiracy theories.
It’s going to be a great summer.
